La Capella

Is part of the architectural ensemble of Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu, dating from the fifteenth century, and undoubtedly one of the prime examples of Gothic and Baroque emblematic landmarks of the city. In this same location, it shares the space with La Biblioteca de Catalunya, l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans, Escola Massana, the Royal Academy of Medicine and Sant Pau Bibliotheque.

About the Exhibition
The vacuum is raised to the category of art. Nothing to see, nothing to admire. And yet, art. A reminder that helps to understand that a vacuum is not invisible; is not lacking, is not a negation, but rather a feeling of emptiness as an experience. With this proposal, these authors try to convey the feeling of emptiness- Here are some artists who have chosen inaction instead of action, to eliminate rather than to add, suggesting inhibition to expression, absence to presence, invisible to the visible… This enables us to see the Capella in another way, its most hidden side, in order to take in and contemplate in its maximum splendor, with nothing that stands in the way and our eyes, a moment to explore space, fixed in every small detail. To enter its history, its consciousness, its memories leading up to the present, and examine new possibilities for future projects. A place to ponder about space, as this subject is about the space itself and not any artifacts which lay within. What better way to reflect than an empty space where the possibilities are endless, like a blank canvas. A place where we can feel, smell, touch, hear, think, and ultimately imagine the endless possibilities. A place where the incorporation of any element hinders would interrupts the dialogue, where even the noise of the visitors interposes, because the silence belongs to the reign of Emptiness.

La Capella
Forma parte del conjunto arquitectónico del Antic Hospital de la Santa Creu, que fecha del siglo XV y es sin duda uno de los ejemplos góticos y barrocos más emblemáticos de la ciudad. En este mismo recinto comparten espacio la Biblioteca de Catalunya, l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans, la Escola Massana, la Reial Academia de Medicina y la Biblioteca de Sant Pau.

La Exhibición

El vacio se eleva a la categoria de arte. Nada que contemplar, nada que admirar. Y sin embargo, arte. Un recordatorio que ayudará a comprender que el vacio no es invisible, no es carencia, no es negación, sino vacio como sensación, como experiencia. Con esta propuesta, estos autores intentan transmitir el vacío como sensación, sintetizar el epicentro del arte conceptual y del minimalismo, modificar una experiencia común como es ir a una exposición o utilizar el vacío como protesta radical. En unos casos, para llevar el arte a la radicalidad. En otros, para jugar con el espectador, para reivindicar el nihilismo, para aceptar la crisis del arte o para derivar la atención del visitante hacia el receptáculo mismo: La Capella se convierte en protagonista. Aquí se muestra algunos artistas que han preferido la Inacción en vez de la acción, eliminar en lugar de añadir, sugerir a decir, contención a expresión, ausencia a presencia, invisible a visible… Mostrar el lado más oculto de La Capella. El de la no exposición, para poder contemplarla en su máximo esplendor, sin que haya nada que estorbe y se interponga en nuestra mirada, un momento para recorrer el espacio, adentrarnos en su Historia, en su memoria, en su recuerdos hasta llegar a su uso en la actualidad. Un lugar donde la incorporación de cualquier elemento estorba, interrumpe el dialogo, donde incluso el ruido de los visitantes se interpone, ya que el silencio pertenece al reino del vacio. Sin el vacío, la pincelada, no implica luz y volumen, ritmo y color, no podría manifestar todas sus virtudes.
